At least 89 per cent of Jamaica’s energy is currently derived from petroleum-based fuels. But the island has an abundance of renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, hydro and biomass. Even with some notable investments in wind turbines and solar technology, these resources have barely been touched. What sources does the country get its energy from? How much of the country’s energy comes from fossil fuels? How much of the country’s energy comes from low-carbon sources? How much of the country’s energy comes from renewables? How much of the country’s energy comes from nuclear power?. More than 20,000 Jamaican homes are expected to be powered by clean, affordable, renewable energy to be generated from the US$61 million solar electricity plant, being built in Content District, Clarendon. Solar power in Jamaica has yet to see large-scale develop-ment, with no utility-scale facilities installed to date. Notable solar installations include the 1.6-MW rooftop array at the Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort & Spa26 and the com-bined 500 kW installed across 32 facilities by the Jamaica Broilers Group.26
