Akuo, an independent global renewable energy power producer and developer, has been chosen by the New Caledonian Government to construct and operate an electricity storage facility capable of delivering 50 MW for 3 hours every day throughout its life cycle (12 years). To do this, Akuo is planning to install over 200 MWh of storage capacity. To do this, Akuo is planning to install over 200 MWh of storage capacity. Akuo plans to deploy 200 MWh of battery storage in New Caledonia, supplying 50 MW for three hours per day over 12 years. The facility will primarily support the operation of nickel mines . The Hélio Boulouparis 2 project consists of over 58,000 solar panels with a cumulative peak capacity of 16 MW – enough to cover the energy needs of over 21,000 residents of New Caledonia. The plant will also feature a lithium-ion battery storage system with a capacity of nearly 10MW (The hours of storage were not released). The government of New Caledonia, a French overseas territory in Polynesia, has announced plans for a 150MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to be deployed by IPP Akuo Energy. Authorities have enlisted Akuo, a developer and independent power producer (IPP), to deploy the system which will have a discharge duration of three hours, a state .
